March 25 2026
The Washington Brazil Office (WBO) is organizing an information session on Wednesday, March 25 in Washington on the situation of democracy, the environment and human rights in Brazil along with bilateral meetings with the staff of U.S. congressional representatives.
The initiative will bring reliable information to US congressional representatives and staff about the October 2026 Brazilian presidential elections and the environmental and human rights agenda that are central issues in this year's elections.
The experts who make up the delegation organized by the WBO are Gabriel Suchodolski, postdoctoral researcher at the Earth Commons Institute at Georgetown University; Tracy Devine Guzmán, Associate Professor of Latin American Studies in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at the University of Miami; Alvaro Lima, Research Director at the Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA); Andrew Miller, Advocacy Director at Amazon Watch; and Gisele Agnelli, from Rede pela Soberania.
“We maintain regular contact with various political, diplomatic, and social actors in the United States. This has allowed us to offer diverse viewpoints on the country and contribute to a well-informed debate on the current situation. We are prioritizing the mobilization of support to defend democracy and the rule of law in Brazil,” said Paulo Abrão, executive director of the WBO. “We defend the freedom of organized civil society to establish dialogue with the international community to make its own point of view known regarding the country's issues. In this election year, this is especially important for Brazil.”
