On April 20, the Brazil Office Alliance participated in the most recent meeting of the International Coalition of Democratic Thought (CIPED), a group created in 2025 to strengthen the international defense of democracy, that was held in Barcelona, Spain.

Paulo Abrão, executive director of the Washington Brazil Office (WBO), was present and signed the group's declaration, which announced the "institutional consolidation" of this initiative with the creation of sessions dedicated to discussing the role of digital platforms and youth, as well as the fight against extremism in political culture.

"The defense of democracy in Brazil is connected to dynamics that transcend our borders. Therefore, we are engaged in this process of always expanding the dialogue between our civil society and actors from other parts of the world," said Abrão, emphasizing that "the WBO seeks to amplify the voice of affiliated and partner organizations through the construction of networks like this one."

The group began in 2025 at a meeting of leaders from Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Colombia, and Spain in Santiago, Chile, and subsequently met in New York, Montevideo, and now in Barcelona. This year's meeting took place within the context of the Global Progressive Mobilization, an alliance that brings together pro-democracy global leaders.

Following up on activities in Spain, Abrão also participated in the Ibero-American Dialogue Days, promoted by Democracia em Xeque and Rumbo Colectivo, that took place in Madrid, bringing the WBO's contributions to the debate on "Technological Sovereignty, Platforms, and Democracy".
